The duisport–China rail connection:
Faster than by ship, considerably cheaper than air transport
Unlike any other region in Europe, duisport is connected to the major commercial centers in Asia by rail. Approximately 60 freight trains arrive here each week, which are then either further transported to domestic seaports or to neighboring European countries.
As a complement to air and sea freight, the rail connection opens up a third way: With travel times from Duisburg to the main hubs in China currently between 12–18 days, this connection is faster than by ship and at the same time significantly cheaper than transporting freight by air.

The French shipping line CMA CGM and the Japanese shipping line NYK Line each hold 40 per cent of the Duisburg Trimodal Terminal GmbH (D3T) on logport I. The duisport Group holds 20 per cent. These shipping lines, which are active worldwide, use the terminal for regional and gateway transport. Various ship and rail shuttles regularly connect D3T with the sea ports Zeebrugge, Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The D3T has sea port status as a container yard.
