For the Port of Duisburg, logistics is more than the optimized connection of flows of goods: The successful growth of duisport is mainly due to its networking activities, which are characterized by personal contacts, a regular exchange of information and permanent institutionalized connections. All of these are required to be able to identify and appropriately influence regional, national and global developments at an early stage. Our engagement in the organizations and associations of the logistics industry and the exchange with national and international partners form the basis for our work. On location, close contacts and coordination processes between the numerous customers in the port area and Duisburger Hafen AG ensure that we are able to achieve our common objectives.

Work in organizations and associations of the logistics industry

duisport is represented in the key organizations and associations of the logistics industry with both a seat and a voice. We are in regular contact with the political decision-makers in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany and Europe, and we are directly involved in the development of key future potentials, primarily through the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr. This trend-setting cooperation between more than 130 companies and leading scientists on logistics issues forms an important part of duisport's network efficiency.

A technical exchange of information is maintained in the Logistics Working Group of the Initiativkreis Ruhr and in cooperation with RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH for the development of new logistics areas in the Ruhr region. In addition, duisport stays in regular contact with the large European sea ports, leading rail companies and the airports. Due to its proven strategic planning successes, duisport is considered a sough-after partner for the development of new and ideally trimodal logistics hubs around the world.

Networking pays off

The results of our networking activities are impressive: every year, 400 trains travel between the Port of Duisburg and more than 100 destinations in Europe and Asia. Two thousand shallow-draft maritime vessels and more than 20,000 inland water vessels also ensure a smooth flow of goods on the water with more than 100 destinations across Europe.

Only against this background is it possible to see how logistics in and around the Port of Duisburg has now become a turbo driver for key economic developments in the import and export industry.

International connections with a future

When it comes to the future, we focus on the continuous expansion of our already excellent network for combined transportation. It ensures that we are well connected to all maritime merchandise flows of the northern German and Benelux sea ports.

Working with the largest Chinese state-owned logistics company, we are consistently expanding our activities along the corridors of the “One Belt, One Road” Silk Road initiative, and thus support our projects in the entire Eurasian area. In this context, duisport is involved in the construction of the “Great Stone” industrial and logistics park near Minsk (Belarus), which covers an area of more than 90 square kilometers.

On the basis of its consistent national and international network management, duisport has strengthened and expanded its position as the most important logistics hub in central Europe and North-Rhine Westphalia’s gateway to the world. In the ranking of the world's largest ports, we are currently in 36th place. We are the only inland port among the top 100, and larger than any port in France and Italy. It is a distinction that we are proud of.
