Our Code of Conduct

Our employees receive regular information on the topics of anti-corruption, conduct in competition, data protection, etc. as well as training on compliance issues. The Compliance department manages the compliance management system centrally for the duisport Group and is in regular contact with Risk Management and Internal Audit.

The contact person is our Compliance Officer Christian Negele, lawyer. In his role, he reports directly to the Management Board and can also contact the Supervisory Board if necessary.

Latest information
on the spread of the coronavirus

The coronavirus affects all of our lives - at home and at the workplace. But despite its enormous impact on our society, the Port of Duisburg continues to operate. We, the team at the world's largest inland port, are doing everything we can to fulfill our role as the supply function for North Rhine-Westphalia.

At the same time, we must also protect the health of all employees in the Port of Duisburg. Our crisis unit follows the recommendations of the government authorities. We are all focused on one single goal: To prevent the further spread of the coronavirus and to maintain the key functions of the Port of Duisburg.

We therefore ask for your help and understanding that we cannot authorize any filming requests or personal interviews on our premises for any given reason.

Thank you in advance for your understanding! Stay safe!

Letter of Management Board

Over the past 1.5 years, our lives have changed as never before. The coronavirus affects us all. And we do not yet know the impact that this pandemic will have on our society.

At this time, the effects of the virus are felt most keenly by those who work in the health care sector and take care of the sick, and those who work to maintain our public transportation systems and our supply chain of essential goods. They deserve our utmost respect and support.

As the duisport Group, we feel a special responsibility to society. We are responsible for maintaining the supply chains and our economy so that the negative impact on the port's supply and disposal function for the entire North Rhine-Westphalia region can be kept to a minimum. We are already noticing a significant decline in trading volumes, and we also face severe restrictions on our daily work activities.

Therefore we are very thankful for your extraordinary commitment during these last few weeks. We have witnessed a great sense of engagement, collaboration and team spirit at all of our subsidiaries and divisions. That is not easy, particularly in times when keeping your distance has become the top priority. Our colleagues in the trains, on the tracks, and in the cranes, packing operations, buildings, trucks, signal boxes and ingates are doing an excellent job in maintaining our port and logistics processes across Germany. They must work under special safety and hygiene regulations. In the commercial area, teams are sitting separate from each other in their home offices, and they communicate remotely. Our IT organization has made this possible within a very short time period. The work done by the crisis unit allows us to implement measures very quickly.

At duisport Group, our main objective will be to maintain the port's operations. We are well organized, and we are prepared. We are convinced that by working together, we will be able to rise to the challenge.
You can count on us, particularly in times such as these.

Together, we can do it.

Stay safe!

FAQ's

What is the impact of the coronavirus on trading volumes?

At this time, we are not able to provide concrete information about the impact on trading volumes.
Duisburger Hafen AG will maintain operations in the port.

What preventative measures has Duisburger Hafen AG implemented in this situation?

The health of all duisport employees and those working in the port is our top priority. Compliance with the established hygiene measures is the first priority. Shaking hands is prohibited. Employees are asked to keep as much distance as possible between themselves and other persons. Moreover, employees have also been provided with the appropriate protective equipment.
At the first sign of illness, our employees are instructed to stay at home. In the case of doubt, they are asked to contact the company physician.
Shift changes on our premises are organized so that no personal contact is required. Similarly, hand-overs and document clearances (e.g. with truck drivers and crane/rail car/ship operators) are also done on a contact-less basis. Breaks are taken individually.
Business travel is canceled until further notice. Employees from risk areas (pursuant to the RKI) must remain at home for two weeks.
Where possible, all employees work from home. All operational and business processes continue without changes.
Duisburger Hafen AG has set up an internal crisis unit that closely monitors all current developments and quickly implements any required measures and recommendations for action.

Do the trains, trucks, ships and the transported goods pose a risk?

Based on the currently known transmission pathways and the relatively low environmental stability of coronaviruses, it is unlikely, based on the current state of knowledge, that imported goods such as food products or items of daily use are a source of infection involving the novel coronavirus. That has been the most recent assessment of the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment). According to the experts, goods logistics does not pose a risk based on the current state of knowledge.
Extensive codes of conduct and hygiene regulations are in effect to prevent the transmission of the virus in the port (see above).

Do trains travel between Duisburg and China at the moment?

The connection between Wuhan and Duisburg is running again since the end of March 2020.

What are the regulations with regard to events?

All events and guided tours on our premises have been canceled until further notice or postponed to a later date.

Are there restrictions in terms of the infrastructure?

All roads and access points on the premises of Duisburger Hafen AG will remain open.

Global Player in the Port of Duisburg: PSA becomes new shareholder of Duisburg Gateway Terminal GmbH

The global port and logistics group PSA International Pte Ltd (PSA), headquartered in Singapore, has signed agreements to acquire a 22 percent minority stake in Duisburg Gateway Terminal GmbH (DGT). The transaction is subject to the approval of Germany’s competition and supervisory authorities. Upon completion of transaction, PSA will join Hupac, HTS and duisport as shareholders of DGT.

Located in the Port of Duisburg, DGT will be the first 100% climate-neutral inland container terminal located in the European hinterlands.

“We are pleased to have gained an important strategic partner for the DGT company in PSA, which will contribute significantly to the success of the Duisburg Gateway Terminal with its various business segments in Europe, Asia and worldwide. This network expansion strengthens both the competitive diversity and the further diversification of the Port of Duisburg. The topic of supply chain diversification has an increasingly important meaning,” says duisport CEO Markus Bangen.

Tan Chong Meng, Group CEO of PSA, says, “We are excited to become a partner in Duisburg Gateway Terminal, alongside its existing shareholders duisport, Hupac and HTS. As part of Europe’s largest and most sustainable inland port, DGT will be a key gateway in providing green logistics services to Germany’s dense industrial hinterland. Leveraging PSA’s global ports and supply chain network as well as a strong presence in continental Europe, PSA aims to strengthen the DGT partnership and support Germany’s green energy transition in line with our strategic focus towards enabling smoother, more resilient and sustainable trade.”

Construction progress on schedule

The construction of the trimodal DGT is on schedule and is considered a model project for the future of logistics. With an area of 235,000 square meters, DGT will be the largest container terminal in the European hinterland when completed. The first construction phase is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2024.

duisport and Port of Antwerp-Bruges agree long-term partnership

  • Cooperation on energy transition, hinterland connections and infrastructure
  • Further step in the expansion of the European Future Network

High-ranking representatives of duisport and Port of Antwerp-Bruges signed a long-term cooperation agreement yesterday. duisport CEO Markus Bangen and Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, sealed the far-reaching partnership in the presence of Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon.

North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport, Oliver Krischer, as well as the Deputy Mayor of the City of Antwerp and President of the Board of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Annick De Ridder, attended the event, as did Josef Hovenjürgen, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry for Home Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Building and Digitization of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

At the heart of the agreement is the expansion of cooperation in the areas of energy transition, rail and hinterland connections, and port infrastructure. All three areas are of outstanding importance for the reliable supply of industry and the stabilization of supply chains between Germany and Belgium and within Europe.

Supply chain for hydrogen

The European energy system will increasingly focus on sustainable energy sources, with green hydrogen carriers playing a crucial role. The development of solutions for the import, storage and distribution of green hydrogen in various forms is therefore one of the main strategic pillars of the cooperation between the two ports. The goal is to build an international supply chain for hydrogen in which both partners become central hydrogen hubs for Europe.

To achieve this goal, duisport and Port of Antwerp-Bruges want to establish a high-frequency rail shuttle in addition to planned pipeline connections and establish rail as a “rolling pipeline”. The expansion of the hinterland network, the promotion of sustainable multimodal transport connections, and the steady shift to environmentally friendly modes of transport are substantial for the realization of the energy transition.

As both ports aim for climate neutrality by 2050, the development of environmentally friendly port handling equipment is also part of the joint agreement.

Expansion of the Future Network

For duisport, the cooperation with Port of Antwerp-Bruges is another important step in the expansion of its future network. Similar agreements were already concluded with the ports of Rotterdam and Amsterdam in May and June of this year.

“Our ports have a key role in their regions as leading logistics and industrial centers and are already linked by various multimodal connections. Against the background of the current global challenges, it is only logical that we sustainably strengthen our European partner network and cooperate even more closely,” says duisport CEO Markus Bangen.

Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges: “To realize the ambitious plan to become a climate neutral continent, we have to guarantee the European industry reliable and secure access to renewable energy sources. The import, transmission and distribution of green molecules needs short, mid and long term solutions. Developing a robust multimodal supply system will be fundamental to make the change happen. And we are pleased that duisport and Port of Antwerp-Bruges are combining forces to that end.”

ABOUT PORT OF ANTWERP-BRUGES

With a total throughput of 289 million tons per year, Port of Antwerp-Bruges is an important hub for global trade and industry. The port is an important link for the handling of containers, general cargo and the transshipment of vehicles. Port of Antwerp-Bruges is home to 1,400 companies and is home to the largest integrated chemical cluster in Europe. The port provides directly and indirectly for a total of 164,000 jobs and a value added of 21 billion euros.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges has a clear goal: to become the first port in the world to balance economy, people and climate. The port aims not only to continue its growth trajectory, but also to leverage its unique position as a logistics, maritime and industrial platform to lead the transition to a circular and low-carbon economy. Together with the port community, customers and other partners, Port of Antwerp-Bruges is actively seeking innovative solutions for a sustainable future. Responsibility for the environment, and therefore for society, is high on the agenda.

The port company employs 1,800 people. Antwerp’s deputy mayor Annick De Ridder is chairman of the board and Bruges mayor Dirk De Fauw is vice chairman. Jacques Vandermeiren is CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee, which is responsible for day-to-day operations.
