can be transported to its destination without a problem.
Whether you are a shipping company, freight forwarder or loading company: duisport can answer all of your questions related to the transport of general cargo. At Duisburg, we offer all types of container-related services at nine container terminals and we develop highly-efficient and multimodal transport concepts. But duisport also has the right solution for conventional non-containerized general cargo such a paper or steel, as there are many companies based at the port which specialize in this particular product segment. In addition to offering pure handling services (generally protected against weather influences), these companies also offer a number of other value-added industry services.
- Facility management
- Transportation & Logistics Services
- Intermodal transportation concepts
- Projekt logistics
The Port of Duisburg also handles a wide variety of bulk cargo. Most of the cargo consists of mineral oils, chemical products, scrap, additives for the metal industry, building materials and of course coal. All of these goods are handled for worldwide delivery by the large number of (mainly) highly-specialized handling companies at duisport.
Five coal terminals can handle up to ten million tonnes of coal per year. Thus duisport is a key driver of the economy as Germany's most important domestic coal hub. The coal, which is mostly imported from Australia, China, Columbia, Poland and South Africa, is transported to Duisburg on the Rhine with pusher trains with a capacity of up to 18,000 tonnes, mostly via Rotterdam and Amsterdam. After the coal has been prepared to customer specifications using breaking and mixing equipment, it is shipped to power plants and the steel industry across Germany by rail or inland water vessel.
Tank capacities of 0.6 million cubic meters and 19 handling facilities are available for liquid cargo. In addition, more than 100,000 tonnes of scrap are correctly sorted at duisport every month and delivered to steel plants in Germany and abroad.
duisport also offers the best conditions for the efficient handling of high-quality general cargo up to 500 tonnes to exporting companies in the machine and plant building sector. Heavy goods and packing activities are bundled in the Nordhafen on the approximately 48,000 m2 large areal of duisport packing logistics. Services include, among others:
- a multi-purpose hall for storing goods of all kinds, and
- a packing building with trimodal connection, including a heavy goods overhead crane for packing components of complex industrial facilities
The outer port has also become the home of the Heavy Lift Terminal Duisburg (HTD), another option for handling high-quality and heavy general cargo. With these offerings, the Port of Duisburg has also become a leading logistics turntable in the heavy goods segment.
