Silicon Valley of Transportation Services"

A logistics center of international standing is growing on the site of the former Krupp steel mill in Duisburg Rheinhausen on the western shore of the Rhine River where iron and steel production was abandoned in 1993.

Site development for logistics operations started in early 1999 and the area is now completely ready for its new future. 75 percent of the tracts have already been marketed.

Reputed logistic service providers have opted for logport. They include New Wave Logistics, a company of the Japanese NYK Group, the British Wincanton Group, Kühne + Nagel from Switzerland, the Hamburg-based Mackprang Group, the Interspe Hamann Group, Rhenus Logistics and Schenker.

The fast progress that has been achieved will probably cut the original marketing time schedule by half. logport conditions are ideal for investors and can be tailored for their specific needs. P&O Chairman Lord Sterling has every reason to refer to logport as the Silicon Valley of transportation services.

The Duisburg Intermodal Terminal (DIT), a trimodal container terminal, is the heart of the 650-acre site for warehousing logistics. It optimizes transportation services for logport operators and is available for use by any third party at non-discriminatory rates. The DIT creates a perfect interface between ship. railroad and truck transportation services and therefore supports the shift of cargo to trains and ships with their environmental benefits. The initial annual handling capacity is 200,000 TEU and can be increased to 400,000 TEU.
