New logport Investments

Union Stahl and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics have extended their facilities / CEVA Logistics opened new distribution center for FIAT parts

Duisburg, 3 March 2009 – Union Stahl which started its logport operations back in 2002 added nearly 30,000 m² to its premises which now have a size of over 70,000 m². With a total building floor area of over 22,000 m² and more than 200 employees, the international steel processor ranks among the most important logport investors.

Siemens Health Care Diagnostics Products (previously Dade Behring), one of the world’s leading medical diagnostic equipment suppliers, acquired a new tract of 14,000 m² to double its warehouse floor size by 8,000 m² to 16,000 m². The new logport distribution center which will be started up towards the middle of this year will serve the entire European continent. The current staff level of 60 may eventually be increased by as much as 50%.

CEVA Logistics, the former contract logistics business of TNT and one of the leaders of the world logistics market, operates the new FIAT distribution center built by Garbe Logistics and started up by the Italian auto maker in January 2009. Stored on an area of 13,000 m², an inventory of as much as 30,000 parts will serve north-western Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands. A total of 69 jobs, including 60 posts for warehouse workers will be created.

“Even in difficult economic circumstances, the creation of excellent local conditions has allowed the Port of Duisburg to win new investors and to provide support for expansion projects,” said Duisburger Hafen AG’s Chief Executive Officer Erich Staake. “Both Union Stahl and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics have benefited from opportunities to bundle their cargo flows. Together with CEVA Logistics, the new investor, they are perfect witnesses to demonstrate our ongoing growth at logport and throughout the duisport Group,” Staake continued.
