Hafen AG exercises the functions of the Port Authority of the City
of Duisburg in the public ports
The
Port Authority is responsible for order and safety in the port.
Its duties include the following:
Collection and distribution of information relevant to port
order and safety (e.g. on dredging or bridge work, stoppages
of ship movements or orders which disallow berthing or simultaneous
ship movements in two directions)
Issuance of orders to warrant safety or to minimize risks (e.g.
interdiction of berthing, assignment of berths or announcement
of new bridge clearances
Performance of safety management functions for the transportation
of hazardous substances (e.g. collection of detailed information
on incoming ships carrying hazardous cargo)
Water pollution management and control (e.g. information of
other agencies and authorities and initiation of action in the
event of water pollution)
Other shipping matters.
