duisport packing logistics GmbH (dpl) and its sister companies develop logistic solutions mainly for exporting and is the German mechanical engineering special packing market leader. The services include efficient customized packing and transportation systems for all cargo from small parts and hazardous products to heavy equipment, machines and complete industrial plants. As early as in 1980, dpl introduced an IT based tracking and tracing system to track the progress of their shipments around the world.
dpl operates numerous packing stations at the manufacturing plants of companies such as Siemens, ABB or Polysius. The company with facilities in Essen, Chemnitz, Hanau and Antwerp and at other locations employs 280 persons and reports annual revenues of some 50 million Euros.
Analysts estimate that marine general cargo too large to be stowed in containers totals as much as 500 million tons each year. This freight must be packed separately. The necessary packing services represent the day-to-day business of the duisport packing logistics segment. Each year, the Group packs industrial cargo of a value of over 1 billion Euros.
dpl has been part of the duisport Group since 1 January 2007 and will considerably strengthen the Duisburg logistic hub with its services, especially in the conventional general cargo market segment. Additional freight will be generated for local shipping companies and terminal operators.
